Patna Zoo
Established in 1973, the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, popularly known as Patna Zoo, stands as a testament to Bihar's commitment to wildlife conservation and environmental education. Spread across 153 acres of lush greenery, our zoo has evolved from a modest collection of animals to a comprehensive biological park that serves as a sanctuary for diverse flora and fauna.
Named after the late Sanjay Gandhi, our institution embodies the vision of creating a space where wildlife thrives in naturalistic habitats while serving as an educational hub for visitors of all ages. Over the decades, we have successfully bred numerous endangered species, contributing significantly to national and international conservation efforts.
Patna Zoo is considered one of the best in the large zoo category of India. Recently, our zoo was ranked 4th by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi, in the MEE-2022. Patna Zoo is striving hard to provide an amazing and exhilarating experience to common visitors as well as to sensitize and create awareness among people about the conservation of our natural flora and fauna.
Our zoo is home to over 800 animals representing more than 110 species, including the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, Asian Elephants, One-horned Rhinoceros, and a variety of indigenous and exotic birds. The botanical section features over 300 species of plants, creating a perfect ecosystem that supports both wildlife and environmental education.
